“ʿAlī ibn Sālim is weak.” Ibn Judʿān is likewise weak. Al-Mundhirī stated in al-Targhīb (3/26): “I know of no hadith narrated by ʿAlī ibn Sālim other than this one, and he is counted among the unknown narrators.” Hence, al-Hāfiz stated categorically in al-Talkhīs (3/13) that its chain is weak.
I have found a corroborating report from Anas ibn Mālik with the same wording, traced back to the Prophet.
Al-Thaqafī narrated it in al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāt (2/168/2), by way of Bishr ibn al-Husayn, from al-Zubayr ibn ʿAdī, from him. Bishr, however, was accused of lying, so his report provides no meaningful corroboration!
328 — (Maʿqil ibn Yasār said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever interferes in any way with Muslims’ prices in order to inflate them, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has taken it upon Himself to seat him in a vast place in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.” He was asked: “Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?” He replied: “More than once or twice.” Ahmad and al-Tabarānī.) p. 248
Weak. Ahmad (5/27) narrated it, as did al-Hākim (2/12–13), by way of Zayd ibn Murra, Abū al-Muʿallā, from al-Hasan, who said: When Maʿqil ibn Yasār became seriously ill, ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ziyād visited him, whereupon he related the hadith. Al-Hākim stated: “It does not meet the criteria of this book.” Al-Dhahabī stated: “I do not know this Zayd.” Al-Mundhirī said the same (3/27), and al-Haythamī made a similar statement (4/101).
329 — (Anas said: “We were forbidden to allow a town-dweller to sell on behalf of a desert-dweller, even if he were his full brother.” Agreed upon.) p. 248
Authentic. Al-Bukhārī (2/28), Muslim (5/6), al-Tahāwī (2/201), and al-Bayhaqī (5/346) narrated it by way of Muhammad ibn Sīrīn, from Anas, with the same wording.
