326 — (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “How wretched a servant is the hoarder! If he hears that prices have fallen, it grieves him; and if he hears that they have risen, he rejoices.” Razīn cited it in his Jāmiʿ.) p. 247
Weak. The compiler quoted it from al-Targhīb (3/27). The complete statement there reads: “I have not found it in any of the source works that he brought together. Rather, al-Tabarānī and others narrated it through a feeble chain.”
I say: It is a hadith of Muʿādh ibn Jabal. Al-Haythamī stated (4/101): “Al-Tabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr. Its chain contains Salmān ibn Salama al-Khabāʾirī (1), who was abandoned.”
I say: Ibn ʿAdī narrated it in al-Kāmil (folio 48/1) by way of ʿAtiyya ibn Baqiyya, who said: My father narrated to us, from Thawr ibn Yazīd, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, traced back to the Prophet.
This chain is weak. Baqiyya practiced tadlīs (obscuring transmission within a chain). Regarding his son ʿAtiyya, Ibn Hibbān stated in al-Thiqāt: “He makes mistakes and narrates singular reports. His hadith may be considered for corroboration when he narrates from his father, except for reports involving tadlīs.”
I say: This is one of those reports involving tadlīs, as you can see.
327 — (And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The one who brings goods to market is granted provision, while the hoarder is accursed!” Ibn Mājah and al-Hākim.) p. 247
Weak. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2153), al-Hākim (2/11), al-Dārimī (2/249), al-Bayhaqī (6/30), ʿAbd ibn Humayd in al-Muntakhab min al-Musnad (6/1), al-ʿUqaylī in al-Duʿafāʾ (296), and others, by way of ʿAlī ibn Sālim, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Umar ibn al-Khattāb, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Bayhaqī stated: “ʿAlī ibn Sālim alone narrated it from ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān. Al-Bukhārī said: ‘His narration is not corroborated.’” Al-Dhahabī stated in his Talkhīs:
