312 — (He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “People must cease boasting of their deceased forefathers, who are but coals of Hell; otherwise, they will surely become more contemptible in Allah’s sight than the dung beetle that rolls excrement along with its nose. Allah has rid you of the arrogance of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance and its boasting of forefathers. A person is either a God-fearing believer or a wretched sinner. All people are children of Adam, and Adam was created from dust.” Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī—the wording is his, and he said: “A sound hadith”—and al-Bayhaqī, likewise with a sound chain, as al-Mundhirī stated) p. 240.
Sound. Abū Dāwūd (5116), al-Tirmidhī (2/331), al-Tahāwī in Mushkil al-Āthār (4/364), and al-Bayhaqī in al-Sunan al-Kubrā (10/232) narrated it, as did Ahmad (2/361, 524), Ibn Wahb in al-Jāmiʿ (4), Ibn Mandah in al-Tawhīd (folio 1/39), and Abū Nuaym in Akhbār Asbahān (2/60), through several routes from Hishām ibn Saʿd, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī—al-Tirmidhī added in one version, “from his father”—from Abū Hurayra, traced back to the Prophet. In my view, its chain is sound and its narrators meet Muslim’s criteria. I did not grade it authentic because Hishām was criticized for his memory. The hadith master said in al-Taqrīb: “Truthful, though he made mistakes.”

(Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.)” Al-Bayhaqī) p. 240.
Authentic. In al-Targhīb (4/33), al-Mundhirī attributed it solely to al-Bayhaqī, from Jābir, and stated: “He said: ‘Its chain contains some unidentified narrators.’”
He overlooked the fact that Ahmad narrated it through another strong route, saying (5/411): We were told by—
