Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (4/108), Muslim (8/2), Ibn Mājah (2706), and Ahmad (2/327, 391), from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah with this wording.
277—(It is reported in the two Sahīhs: “Shall I not inform you of the gravest major sins?” He repeated this three times. They replied, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Associating partners with Allah and being undutiful to one’s parents.” He had been reclining, but then sat up and said: “And indeed, false speech and false testimony.”) p. 224
Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (4/110, 179, 328), Muslim (1/64), al-Tirmidhī (2/49)—who said, “A good and authentic hadith”—and Ahmad (5/36, 38), from the hadith of Abū Bakrah, may Allah be pleased with him. It also has a corroborating narration in the two Sahīhs from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, with the wording, “The gravest major sins…” He then mentioned them and added, “and taking a life.” It does not mention his sitting up.
278—(He, peace be upon him, also said: “Three will not enter Paradise: one who is undutiful to his parents, a man devoid of protective jealousy concerning his household, and a woman who adopts the ways of men (one who imitates men).” Narrated by al-Nasā’ī and al-Bazzār through two sound chains of transmission, and by al-Hākim.) p. 224
Authentic. It is documented in Hijāb al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah (p. 67).
279—(He also said: “Allah defers until the Day of Resurrection the punishment of whichever sins He wills, except undutifulness to parents, whose punishment He hastens for its perpetrator during his lifetime, before his death.” Al-Hākim narrated it and declared its chain of transmission authentic.) p. 224
Weak. Al-Hākim (4/156) narrated it by way of Bakkār ibn Abd al-Azīz ibn Abī Bakrah, who said: “I heard my father narrate from Abū Bakrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him…’” and he then cited the hadith. Al-Hākim said, “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī rejected this, saying, “I say: Bakkār is weak.” The source then states that ‘Umar pointed al-Mundhirī to this in al-Targhīb (3/222).
