I say: This chain of transmission is authentic, and its narrators are trustworthy, though there is disagreement over whether Makhrama ibn Bukayr heard from his father. Al-Taqrīb states: “He was truthful. His transmission from his father came through material he found in his father’s book. This was stated by Ahmad, Ibn Maīn, and others. Ibn al-Madīnī said: ‘He heard a little from his father.’” Mahmūd ibn Labīd was a junior Companion, and most of his narrations were from the Companions, as al-Hāfiz stated. Thus, this apparently belongs to his reports in which an intermediary is omitted; however, such reports from Companions constitute authoritative evidence.
