“What do you think of a man who divorced his wife while she was menstruating?” He then recounted to the questioner the story of how he had divorced his wife while she was menstruating, and how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned her to him and did not regard it as anything.) p. 207.
Authentic. However, the words, “and did not regard it as anything,” do not explicitly mean that he did not regard it as a divorce. Rather, they mean that he did not regard it as proper, as al-Shāfiʿī (may Allah have mercy on him) stated. This interpretation is necessary because it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding this pronouncement of divorce, “It is one,” and because it is established through several authentic routes that Ibn Umar counted it as such. I have examined these routes exhaustively in the aforementioned source, so it should be consulted, for this is extremely important.
259—(The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said): “Whoever swears by other than Allah has committed shirk.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and al-Hākim.) p. 208.
Authentic. It is documented in al-Irwāʾ (2565).
260—(“Whoever wishes to swear an oath must swear by Allah or remain silent.” Narrated by Muslim.) p. 208.
Authentic. It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī and others. It is documented in the aforementioned source (2564).
261—(It is authentically reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of a man who divorced his wife with three pronouncements all at once. He rose in anger and then said, “Is the Book of Allah being toyed with while I am still among you?” A man then stood and said, “O Messenger of Allah, shall I kill him?” Narrated by al-Nasāī.) p. 210.
Authentic. Al-Nasāī narrated it (2/95–96) via Makhrama, from his father, who said: “I heard Mahmūd ibn Labīd say”—and he then related the report.
