Authentic. Al-Bukhārī (4/170, 254), Muslim (8/52), and Ahmad (2/276) transmitted it by way of Ibn Abbās, who said: “I have seen nothing more closely resembling the lesser sins than what Abū Hurayrah reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘Allah has decreed for the son of Adam his share of fornication, which he will inevitably encounter. The fornication of the eye is looking, the fornication of the tongue is speaking, and the soul yearns and desires; the private parts then either confirm all of that or belie it.’” It also has other chains from Abū Hurayrah in Muslim and al-Musnad (2/343, 344, 372, 411, 528, 535, 536). It also has a corroborating report there (1/412) from Ibn Masūd. Al-Mundhirī (3/56) declared it authentic, and its chain is sound.
