Narrated by Ahmad, al-Tirmidhī, al-Nasāī, Ibn Hibbān in his Sahīh, and al-Hākim.
Al-Tirmidhī said, “A sound, authentic hadith.” p. 141
Authentic. It is documented in al-Irwā (12), through a group of Companions—may Allah be pleased with them.
180 – (The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must never be alone with a woman unless she is accompanied by a close male relative whom she may never marry, for Satan will be the third of them.” Narrated by Ahmad from Āmir ibn Rabīah.) p. 146
Authentic. Ahmad (3/446) transmitted it from Āmir ibn Rabīah—may Allah be pleased with him—traced back to the Prophet with the same meaning. This precise wording, however, is found in his work (3/339) in the hadith of Jābir—may Allah be pleased with him. It also has a corroborating report in his work (1/18, 26) from Umar—may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Hākim (1/114) declared it authentic, and al-Dhahabī concurred. It is indeed as he said.
181 – (He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Beware of entering upon women.” A man from the Ansār asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what about a husband’s male relatives?”—meaning the husband’s relatives. He replied, “A husband’s male relative is death.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī and Muslim.) p. 147
Authentic. Al-Bukhārī (4/453), Muslim (7/7), al-Tirmidhī (1/219), and al-Dārimī (2/278) transmitted it from Uqbah ibn Āmir, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said—and he cited the hadith. Muslim added that al-Layth ibn Sad said, “The husband’s male relative means his brother and similar relatives on the husband’s side, such as his cousin and the like.”
182 – (In the two Sahīhs, Abd Allah ibn Abbās reported: “None of you should be alone with a woman unless she is accompanied by a close male relative whom she may never marry.”) p. 146
