Authentic. Al-Bukhārī (4/104), as well as Abu Dāwūd (4151) and Ahmad (6/52, 237/252), transmitted it through Imrān ibn Hittān, to whom Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—related it. It is also transmitted from her through another chain in al-Musnad (6/140, 216).
143 — (Ibn Abbas narrated that, in the year of the Conquest, “When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw the images inside the Sacred House, he did not enter until he ordered that they be erased.”) p. 114.
Authentic. Al-Bukhārī (2/339), Abu Dāwūd (2027), and Ahmad (1/334, 365) transmitted it through Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
“When he saw the images inside the House, he did not enter until he ordered that they be erased. He saw Abraham and Ishmael depicted with divining arrows in their hands and said, ‘May Allah destroy them! By Allah, they never once used divining arrows to make decisions.’”
It has a corroborating report from the hadith of Jābir. Abu Dāwūd (4156) and Ibn Saʿd in al-Tabaqāt (2/1/102) transmitted it through Wahb ibn Munabbih, from him. Its chain of transmission is sound. Ahmad (3/335–336, 383, 396) also transmitted it through Abu al-Zubayr, who heard Jābir ibn Abdullah narrate it. Its chain of transmission is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria. One narration adds: “Umar moistened a cloth and wiped them away with it.”
