they would have to lean on staffs because of the length of the standing, and they would not leave the prayer until the break of dawn. This should inspire every one of us to bring our Tarawih as close as we can to theirs: let us lengthen the recitation, multiply the tasbih and other words of remembrance in bowing, prostration, and the pauses between them, so that we may taste at least something of the reverent humility that is the spirit and essence of the prayer. That humility has been lost by many who perform this prayer, for they are intent on completing the alleged twenty rakʿahs without any concern for composure; instead they peck at it like roosters, as though they were gears and machines bobbing up and down automatically. Such haste leaves them unable to reflect on the words of Allah they hear, and it is hard for anyone even to keep pace with them except with great difficulty. ⦗114⦘
