(1) Meaning: in scattered groups.
(2) I.e., “I set up.” In the lexicon Lisan it says: “al-nasb is to place or erect something,” and the first sense seems more fitting here—the point is that he ﷺ told her to lay a reed mat in front of the doorway. This is supported by the hadith of Zayd ibn Thabit: “The Prophet ﷺ made a screened enclosure in the mosque out of a reed mat, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed there for several nights until people gathered around him….” The report is related by Muslim (2/188) and others.
(3) He meant that the mosque was rumbling because of the large crowd. (Al-Nihayah.)
(4) That is, he uttered the testimony of faith. It may also be, in my view, that she intended the sermon of need (khutbat al-hajah) in which the testimony is recited; we reproduced its text in the sermon that opens the first treatise and later published it separately.
(5) Narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i, al-Firyabi in the Book of Fasting, Ibn Nasr, and Ahmad; the wording is that of the last two.
