Another point of discrepancy is his statement: “This is something that never existed.” It is far-fetched that Ubayy should say such a thing and that ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with them both, would agree with him, since that very congregation took place in the Prophet’s lifetime, as we have already established with sound narrations in the first chapter. They must either have witnessed it themselves or, at the very least, been aware of it—and who could be more knowledgeable than they?
In sum, this report attributed to Ubayy is rejected and provides no evidence.
– 3 – ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd
Ibn Naṣr relates in Qiyām al-Layl, through Zayd ibn Wahb: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, may Allah be pleased with him, used to lead us in prayer during Ramadan, then depart while part of the night still remained.” Al-Aʿmash added, “He would pray twenty rakʿahs and perform witr with three.”
Al-Mubārakpūrī states in Tuḥfat al-Ahwadhī: “This chain too is broken, for al-Aʿmash did not meet Ibn Masʿūd.” ⦗81⦘
