This is only one instance out of many that are well known to those who specialize in the study of the Sunnah. I say: just as disagreement over this particular issue and similar ones does not mean that no sound text exists concerning it, so too the divergence over the number of rak‘ahs for Tarawih does not indicate the absence of an authentic report on the matter. In fact, a definitive text is indeed extant. It is therefore impermissible to set aside the text because of a dispute; rather, the obligation is to eliminate the dispute by returning to the text itself, in accordance with the words of Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He: “But no—by your Lord! They will not truly believe until they make you the judge in their disputes, then find within themselves no discomfort regarding what you have decided, and submit in full submission.” ⦗33⦘
