Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī reported: “I resolved to keep a close watch on the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tonight. He began by performing two light rak‘ahs. He then prayed two rak‘ahs that were exceedingly, exceedingly, exceedingly long. After that he prayed two rak‘ahs that were shorter than the ones before them, followed by two rak‘ahs shorter than those, then two rak‘ahs shorter than those, and again two rak‘ahs shorter than those. Finally, he concluded with the witr, making a total of thirteen rak‘ahs.
