Sharḥ al-SunnahAl-Muzani

Ibrāhīm al-Muzanī—may Allah have mercy on him. One of our companions remarked, “I have been informed that he used to speak about the Qur’an and then withhold judgment concerning it.” Another reported that he went so far as to state it outright. When a number of other people joined our circle, the issue weighed heavily on everyone present. Accordingly, we wrote him a letter, seeking clarification and requesting that he compose for us an explanation of the Sunnah on matters of divine decree (qadar), irjāʾ, the Qur’an, the resurrection, the rising, the scales, and the limits of rational inquiry. So he wrote back to us.
