He said: Al-Sharif Abu Muhammad ʿAbd al-Malik b. al-Hasan b. Batnah al-Ansari related this to us in Mecca while I read it to him, in the year 499 AH. Both of them said: Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Husayn b. ʿAli al-Nasawi, the jurist, informed us when he arrived in Mecca. Abu Muhammad Ismaʿil b. Rajaʾ b. Saʿid al-ʿAsqalani related it to me in Asqalan. Abu al-Husayn Muhammad b. Ahmad b. ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Malti and Abu Ahmad Muhammad b. Muhammad b. ʿAbd al-Rahim al-Qaysarani also related it to me. They both said: Ahmad b. Bakr al-Yazuri informed us. He said: al-Hasan b. ʿAli al-Yazuri, the jurist, narrated it to me. ʿAli b. ʿAbd Allah al-Halwani narrated to me, saying, “I was in Tripoli of the Maghrib, and I and some of our companions were discussing the Sunnah until we mentioned Abu—”
