—namely ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him); after him we esteem the man of surpassing merit and devotion, ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—may Allah be pleased with them all. Next come the remaining members of the Ten whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ assured of Paradise. For each of those men we cherish a love proportionate to the preference the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him, and thereafter we extend the same affection to all the rest of the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them, one and all.
