I heard Ibrāhīm ibn al-Muhtadī say, “I heard Dāwūd ibn Ṭalḥah say, ‘I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥanīfah al-Dawsī say, ‘I heard Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan say:
“All the jurists, without exception, from East to West, are unanimous that one must have faith in the Qur’an and in the hadiths transmitted by reliable narrators from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) concerning the attributes of the Lord—without explanation, description, or comparison. Whoever interprets any of them has deviated from what the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was upon and has parted from the community, for they neither described nor interpreted; rather, they believed in what is in the Book and the Sunnah and then kept silent. Whoever holds the view of Jahm has left the community, for he has attributed to Him an attribute of non-existence.”’
14 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan also said, with regard to the hadiths stating that Allah descends to the lowest heaven and similar reports: “These hadiths have been narrated by trustworthy transmitters; therefore we relate them, believe in them, and do not interpret them.”
