al-Hillī say in Rayy: I heard Ahmad ibn Muhammad say: “Tell us: do you say that Allah’s speech is in the Preserved Tablet?” He was told: “We do, for Allah Most High says:
‘Rather, it is a glorious Quran, in a Preserved Tablet.’ (al-Burūj 22)
The Quran is therefore in the Preserved Tablet, and it is in the hearts of those who have been given knowledge. Allah Most High says:
‘Rather, it is clear verses in the hearts of those who have been given knowledge.’
It is recited with the tongue. Allah Most High says:
‘Do not move your tongue with it to hasten its recitation.’
Thus, the Quran is truly written in our copies of the Quran, truly preserved in our hearts, truly recited with our tongues, and truly heard by us, as He, Most High, says:
‘Then grant him protection so that he may hear Allah’s speech.’”
This concludes what al-Bayhaqī quoted from the book al-Ibāna. Al-Bayhaqī also said at the beginning of this chapter, after citing verses and other evidence as mentioned in the book al-Ibāna:
