[Another chain:] and ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Muhammad al-Mukattib and others informed us, saying: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Ahmad narrated to us; Ibn Manīʿ narrated to us; Dāwūd ibn Rushayd narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us. Both said: Yahyā ibn Abī ʿAmr al-Shaybānī narrated to us. Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Rahmān said: Abū Zurʿah Yahyā ibn Abī ʿAmr al-Saybānī narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Daylamī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Allah, Blessed and Exalted, created His creation in darkness, then cast upon them some of His light. Those whom that light reached were guided, while those it missed went astray. That is why I say: the pen has dried in accordance with the knowledge of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
