from ʿUmar ibn Dīnār, who said: ʿIkrimah narrated to us, saying: Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
“And We did not make the vision We showed you except as a trial for the people.”
He said: “It was a vision that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw with his own eyes on the night he was taken on the Night Journey.” This is the wording of ʿAbd al-Jabbār. ʿUmar ibn Hafs added: “It was not a dream.”

عَن عمر بن دِينَار ثَنَا عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ﵁ ﴿وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّؤْيَا الَّتِي أَرَيْنَاكَ إِلا فِتْنَةً للنَّاس﴾
وَقَالَ هِيَ رُؤْيَا عَيْنٍ رَآهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ هَذَا لَفْظُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ وَزَادَ عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ لَيْسَ رُؤْيَا مَنَامٍ
