(24) Chapter: Affirming That Allah, Mighty and Majestic, Writes

24 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Dādī and Ahmad ibn Hamdān informed us; both said: Al-Shārikī narrated to us: Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawsilī narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn Muhammad al-Nāqid narrated to us: Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār: Tāwūs narrated to us, saying: I heard Abū Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—relate that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Moses and Adam—may blessings and peace be upon them both—disputed. Moses said, ‘You are our father, yet you let us down and caused us to be expelled from Paradise.’ Adam replied, ‘Moses, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, singled you out by speaking to you and wrote the Torah for you with His Hand. Do you blame me for something Allah had decreed for me forty years before He created me?’”

He said three times: “Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.”

- (٢٤) بَابُ إِثْبَاتِ الْخَطِّ لِلَّهِ ﷿ ٢٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدادي وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ قَالَا ثَنَا الشَّارِكِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ ثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بن دِينَار ثَنَا طَاوُوس قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ﵁ يحدث النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ احْتَجَّ مُوسَى وَآدَمُ عَلَيْهِمَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ فَقَالَ مُوسَى أَنْتَ أَبونَا خيبتنا وَأَخْرَجْتَنَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ فَقَالَ آدَمُ يَا مُوسَى اصْطَفَاكَ اللَّهُ ﷿ بِكَلامِهِ وَخَطَّ لَكَ التَّوْرَاةَ بِيَدِهِ تَلُومُنِي عَلَى أَمْرٍ قَدْ قَدَّرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَنِي بِأَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً قَالَ فَحَجَّ آدَمُ مُوسَى ثَلَاثًا
