Yahyā ibn Ayyūb narrated to me, from Jarīr, from ʿAtāʾ ibn Abī Rabāh, from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Indeed, when Adam (peace be upon him) descended to the earth, he would glorify Allah as the angels did and pray as they prayed, because of his height and nearness to heaven. Then Allah placed His hand upon him, and it lowered him seventy cubits toward the earth.”
