Chapter: On Faith
If it is asked, “Where is faith located?” say: “Its mine and resting place is the heart, while its offshoot extends throughout the body.”
If someone asks, “Is it in your finger?” respond, “Yes.” Should he then ask, “If the finger is cut off, where does the faith in it go?” say, “Back to the heart.”
If he asks, “Does Allah demand anything from the servants?” reply, “No; rather, they are the ones who ask of Him.”
If he then says, “What is Allah’s right over them?” say, “That they worship Him and associate nothing with Him. When they do so, their right upon Him is that He forgives them and rewards them for it.”
Indeed, Allah is pleased with the believers, as He, Exalted is He, has said: “Allah was truly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you beneath the tree” (Q 48:18). Conversely, He is angered with Iblis.
As for His statement, “Do whatever you wish” (Q 41:40), it is a threat. And regarding His words, “And as for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance” (Q 41:17), meaning: We made the matter clear to them and caused them to see, yet they chose otherwise.
