I asked, “Does Allah punish His servants for what He is pleased with, or for what He is not pleased with?”
He replied, “Allah punishes them for what He is not pleased with, for He punishes them for disbelief and sins, and He is not pleased with those.”

I said, “Then does He punish them for what He wills, or for what He does not will?”
He answered, “Rather, He punishes them for what He has willed for them, because He punishes them for disbelief and sins; He willed disbelief for the unbeliever and sin for the sinner.”

I asked, “Did He first command them to enter Islam and then will disbelief for them?”
He said, “Yes.”

I asked, “Did His will precede His command, or did His command precede His will?”
He replied, “His will preceded His command.”

I said, “Is Allah’s will identical with His good pleasure, or not?”
He responded, “Allah’s good pleasure is for the one who acts in accordance with His will, with His approval, and in obedience to what He has commanded. As for the one who acts contrary to what He has commanded, he acts by Allah’s will but not by His good pleasure; rather, he acts in disobedience, and disobedience is not His pleasure.”

I asked, “Does Allah punish His servants for what He is pleased with?”
He answered, “He punishes them for what He is not pleased with.”
