Prohibition of Presuming to Decide on Allah’s Behalf
Abu Ẓabyān narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Woe to those of my ummah who presume to speak for Allah.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the presumers?” He replied, “Those who say, ‘So-and-so is in Paradise and so-and-so is in the Fire.’
Nāfiʿ narrated from Ibn ʿUmar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not declare that members of my ummah are in Paradise or in the Fire. Leave them until Allah judges between them on the Day of Resurrection.”
Abān narrated from al-Ḥasan that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah—exalted is He—will say, ‘Do not consign My servants to Paradise or to Hell until I alone judge between them on the Day of Resurrection and assign them their abodes.’”
I then asked, “Inform me about the killer and about praying behind him.” He replied, “Prayer behind every upright or wicked person is valid; your reward remains yours.”
