—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “It has reached me from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib that he stated, ‘Whoever does not assign the disbelievers to their proper place in the Fire is just like them.’ I then asked, ‘Inform me about someone who believes yet neither prays, nor fasts, nor performs any of these deeds—does his faith avail him in any way?’ He replied, ‘He is under Allah’s will: if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will show him mercy.’”
