Al-Fiqh al-AkbarAbu Hanifa

As for sins that fall short of shirk and kufr, and whose doer does not repent before dying as a believer, he remains a believer but within Allah’s will: if He so wills, He may punish him with the Fire, and if He so wills, He may pardon him entirely and never subject him to the Fire. When ostentation (riyaʾ) intrudes upon any act, it nullifies its reward, and the same holds true for self-admiration (ʿujb).
