So he is told, “Your answer—‘I do not know; is it justice or oppression?’ If he says, ‘It is justice,’ then say to him: ‘What counted as justice in this world—is it not also justice in the Hereafter?’ If he replies, ‘Yes,’ ask him: ‘Do you believe in the torment of the grave, in the questioning by Munkar and Nakir, and in qadar, both its good and its evil, all of it from Allah the Exalted?’ If he answers, ‘Yes,’ then say, ‘Are you a believer?’ Should he say, ‘I do not know,’ tell him, ‘May you neither know, nor understand, nor ever prosper.’
I say: Whoever claims that Paradise and Hell are not created, say to him, ‘Are they something or are they nothing? Allah, exalted is He, says, “…and He created all things” (Q 25:2). He also says, “Indeed, We have created all things according to a determined measure” (Q 54:49), and He says, “The Fire, to which they are exposed morning and evening” (Q 40:46).’
If he asserts that the two will eventually cease to exist, say to him, ‘Allah has described their bliss, saying, “Neither limited nor forbidden” (Q 56:33).’ Anyone who claims that they will perish after their inhabitants have entered them has disbelieved in Allah the Exalted, for he has denied their everlastingness.
