Al-Ikhlas wa-l-NiyyaIbn Abi al-Dunya

51 – Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: My father narrated to me, saying: Abd al-Azīz ibn Abān informed us, saying: Imrān ibn Khālid narrated to us, saying:

I heard Muhammad ibn Wāsi say, “A man might weep for twenty years while his wife was with him, yet she would know nothing of it.”

[51] Ibn Abī al-Dunyā’s father was Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Sufyān, a client of Banū Umayya. He narrated from Hushaym ibn Bashīr, Jarīr ibn Abd al-Hamīd, Sufyān ibn Uyayna, and others. Al-Khatīb said: “His son narrated sound hadiths from him.” *Tārīkh Baghdād*, 2/370. Abd al-Azīz ibn Abān was rejected as a narrator, and Ibn Maīn accused him of lying. He died in 207 AH. *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, p. 356.
