38 – Khālid ibn Khidāsh narrated to me: Mālik ibn Anas narrated to me, from al-Zuhrī, from Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah, who said:
“The righteousness of Umar and Ibn Umar would not become apparent until they spoke or acted.”
39 – Ubayd Allah ibn Umar narrated to us: Hammād ibn Zayd narrated to us: Hishām narrated to us, from al-Hasan, who said:
“A man would devote himself to worship for twenty years without his neighbor knowing.”
Hammād said, “Yet perhaps one of you spends a night, or part of a night, in prayer, then by morning is already lording it over his neighbor.”
[38] Khālid ibn Khidāsh al-Basrī was generally reliable but made mistakes. He died in 224 AH. *Tahdhīb al-Kamāl*, 8/45; *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, 1/212.
Al-Zuhrī was Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah ibn Shihāb, the jurist and hadith master. He died in 125 AH. *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, 2/207.
Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattāb was trustworthy and died in 106 AH. *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, 1/535.
[39] Hammād ibn Zayd ibn Dirham al-Azdī al-Jahdamī was a trustworthy and firmly established jurist. It is said that he was blind, though this may have been a condition that developed later, since it is reliably established that others used to write for him. He died in 179 AH at the age of eighty-one. *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, p. 171.
Hishām was Ibn Hassān al-Azdī al-Qurdūsī, Abū Abd Allah al-Basrī. He was trustworthy and died in 147 or 148 AH. *Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb*, p. 572.
Al-Hasan was al-Basrī.
٣٨ - حدثني خالد بنُ خِداش ، حدثني مالكُ بنُ أنس ، عن الزُّهريِّ :
عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله قال :
كان لا يُعرفُ البِرُّ في عُمَر ، ولا ابنِ عُمَر ، حتى يَقُولا أو يَعملا .
٣٩ - حدثنا عُبيد الله بنُ عمر قال : حدثنا حمّاد بنُ زيد ، حدثنا هشام :
عن الحَسَن قال :
إنْ كانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَتَعَبَّدُ عشرين سنةً ما يعلمُ به جاره .
قال حمّاد : ولعلّ أحدَكم يُصلّي ليلةً أو بعضَ ليلة ، فيُصبحُ ، وقد طال
على جارِهِ .
[ ٣٨ ] - خالد بن خداش البصري ، صدوق يخطئ ، مات سنة ٢٢٤ ؛ « تهذيب
الكمال » ٤٥/٨ ، و « تقريب التهذيب » ٢١٢/١ .
الزُّهري ، هو محمد بن مسلم بن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن شهاب ، الفقيه
الحافظ ، مات سنة ١٢٥ ؛ « التقريب » ٢٠٧/٢ .
عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عمر بن الخطاب ، ثقة ، مات سنة ١٠٦ ؛ « تقريب
التهذيب » ٥٣٥/١ .
[ ٣٩ ] - حَمّاد بنُ زيد بن درهم ، الأزدي الجَهْضَميُّ ، ثقة ثبت فقيه ، قيل إنه كان
ضريراً ولعلّه طرأ عليه ، لأنه صحّ أنه كان يُكتب له ، مات سنة ١٧٩ ، وله
٨١ سنة ؛ « تقريب التهذيب » : ١٧١ .
هشام ، هو ابن حَسَّان الأزدي القُرْدوسي ، أبو عبد الله البصري ، ثقة ،
مات سنة ١٤٧ أو ١٤٨ ؛ « التقريب » : ٥٧٢ .
الحسن ، هو البصري .
