In MS B: “This is the end of Nukhbat al-Fikr fi Mustalah Ahl al-Athar, authored by Shihab al-Din Ibn ʿAli Ibn Hajar. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, and all his companions. The copying was finished late on Thursday, the sixteenth of the sacred month of Muharram, at the beginning of the year 834 AH, by the hand of the weakest of Allah’s servants and the most in need of His mercy and forgiveness, Muhammad b. Musa b. ʿImran—may Allah forgive him, his parents, his teachers, everyone who prays for his repentance and forgiveness, and all Muslims.” In MS J: “End of the book, and Allah knows best what is correct. It was completed—by Allah’s praise, help, and gracious success—on the forenoon of Sunday, the sixth of Jumada al-Akhirah, 834 AH; may Allah grant it a good outcome. Written by the servant poor to Allah Most High, Abu al-Fath Muhammad b. Muhammad Ibn al-Jazari al-Nabulusi, in the mosque of Shaykh Shihab al-Din Ibn Arslan—may Allah return his blessings to us and to the Muslims, amen.” In the margin: “Collated with the exemplar to the extent possible.” In MS D: “End of the book, and Allah knows best what is correct. It was finished—by Allah’s praise and help—on Tuesday, the eighth of the sacred month of Muharram, 850 AH, by the hand of the weakest of Allah’s servants and the most in need of His mercy and forgiveness, Muhammad b. Musa b. ʿImran—may Allah forgive him, his parents, his teachers, and all Muslims; amen. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and grant them peace.” In MS Ha: “The introduction is complete; praise is due to Allah with true praise, and blessings upon Muhammad, His Prophet and servant, at the end of the blessed month of Rabiʿ al-Awwal in the year 869 AH.” In MS W: “The book Nukhbat al-Fikr fi Mustalah Ahl al-Athar is finished; praise belongs to Allah alone; and may Allah bless Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and grant them peace.” At the end of the manuscript there is an ijazah (authorization) for the copyist from the hadith master ʿUthman al-Dimi, reading: “Praise be to Allah, the Ever-Bountiful, and blessings upon the best of His creation, Muhammad the Chosen One, and peace. To proceed: the entire ‘Nukhbah’ was read to me by its owner and copyist—the shaykh, diligent student, accomplished, blessed, and ascetic—Siraj al-Din Abu Hafs ʿUmar b. Abi Bakr b. ʿAli, known as Ibn al-Mubayyad al-Saydawi al-Shafiʿi—may Allah benefit him with knowledge, adorn him with forbearance, and make him among the scholars who act on what they know. I hereby authorize him to transmit it from me by my transmission from its author—our teacher, Shaykh al-Islam, the hadith master of the age, Abu al-Fadl Ahmad b. ʿAli b. Muhammad Ibn Hajar al-ʿAsqalani—may Allah Most High have mercy on him. Written and stated by the one needy of his Lord’s mercy and independent through Him of all else, ʿUthman b. Muhammad b. ʿUthman b. Nasir al-Dimi, on the sixth of Shawwal in the year 876 AH, praising, invoking blessings and peace, and uttering the formulas hasbala and haqla.” In the margin there is another, partially legible, certificate of audition; what can be read is: “Praise be to Allah; then the aforementioned shaykh read to me the entire book entitled … .”
