– He also said: “The early authorities attested to his prodigious memory, reliability, integrity, complete mastery, keen intellect, exceptional acumen, and vast learning in a variety of disciplines; and his own teacher, al-‘Irāqī, declared him the most knowledgeable of all his students in ḥadīth.” (1)
– Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Suyūṭī said: “The unique scholar of his age, the standard-bearer of the Sunnah in his time; the Dhahabī of this era—its pure gold and its precious jewel—whose distinction has outshone the pride of many generations; the imām of this discipline for those who seek guidance, the vanguard of the armies of ḥadīth scholars, the indispensable authority in weakening and authenticating reports, and the foremost witness and judge in the twin fields of accreditation and discreditation.” (2)
– Imām al-Shawkānī said: “He devoted himself to the dissemination of ḥadīth, confining his efforts to its study, teaching, and writing, and he stood alone in that endeavor. Near and far, friend and foe alike, testified to his memorization and precision, until the very application of the title ḥāfiẓ to him became a point of unanimous agreement.” (3)
