Istina' al-Ma'rufIbn Abi al-Dunya

85 – Ḥusayn ibn Isḥāq ibn Zayd narrated to us; Aswad ibn ʿĀmir narrated to us; Ḥammād reported from Thābit, who said: Al-Ḥasan passed by me while I was in spiritual retreat (iʿtikāf) and said, “Go and meet so-and-so to attend to his need.” ⦗72⦘ I replied, “I am observing iʿtikāf.” He said, “By Allah, fulfilling the need of a Muslim is dearer to me than remaining in iʿtikāf for such-and-such a period.”
