Istina' al-Ma'ruf - Ibn Abi al-Dunya - (59)

59 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Qāsim Abū Muḥammad al-Ṭāʾī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Yaḥyā narrated to us, from Sulaymān Abū Fāṭimah, who said:

Allah, Exalted is He, revealed to Dhu al-Qarnayn:

⦗59⦘ “By My might and My majesty, I have not created a being more beloved to Me than al-maʿrūf (acts of kindness). I shall set up a standard for it: when you see that I have made al-maʿrūf dear to someone’s heart, have made it easy for him to perform, and have inclined people to seek it from him, then love him and keep close to him, for he is among the best of My creation. But when you see that I have made al-maʿrūf hateful to someone and have caused people to shrink from asking him, then detest him and do not befriend him, for he is among the worst of what I have created.”

٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عبد الله قال حدثنا الْقَاسِمُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الطَّائِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ [يَحْيَى] عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ أَبِي فَاطِمَةَ قَالَ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى ذِي الْقَرْنَيْنِ وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلَالِي مَا خَلَقْتُ خَلْقًا أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَسَأَجْعَلُ [لَهُ عَلَمًا] فَمَنْ رَأَيْتَنِي حَبَّبْتُ إِلَيْهِ الْمَعْرُوفَ وَسَهَّلْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَحَبَّبْتُ إِلَى النَّاسِ الطَّلَبَ إِلَيْهِ فَأَحِبَّهُ وَتَوَلَّهُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَمَنْ رَأَيْتَنِي كَرَّهْتُ إِلَيْهِ الْمَعْرُوفَ وَبَغَّضْتُ إِلَى النَّاسِ الطَّلَبَ إِلَيْهِ فَأَبْغِضْهُ وَلَا تَوَلَّهُ فَإِنَّهُ من شر [ما] خلقت.
