47 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Rajaʾ ibn al-Sindi, Muhammad ibn Ḥatim ibn Bazīʿ, and others narrated … through Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allah, from Muhammad ibn Dhakwān, from Rajaʾ ibn Ḥaywah, who said:
“I was standing at the gate of Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik when a man approached—one I had never seen before, nor have I seen since. He said, ‘Rajaʾ, you have been tried by this post, and it has become a test appointed for you; in drawing close to him lies a hidden sting. Rajaʾ, therefore hold fast to benevolence and to helping the weak. Rajaʾ, whoever conveys the need of a helpless person—one who cannot see to it himself—to a ruler, Allah will make his foot firm upon the Bridge on the Day when feet will slip.’”
