177 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; he said: ʿUmar ibn Hafs narrated to me; he said: my father informed us; he said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us; he said: I heard Yazid al-Ruqashi from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The people of Hell will be commanded to stand in rows. As a Muslim man passes by them, one of the inmates will cry out, ‘So-and-so, intercede for me!’ He will reply, ‘Who are you?’ The man will say, ‘Can you not recognise me? I am the one who, when you asked me for water, I gave it to you.’ He will then intercede for him, and his intercession will be accepted. Another will address him in the same way, saying, ‘I am the one whom you once asked for a gift, and I granted it to you.’”
