166 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Ismaʿil ibn Yusuf narrated to us; he said: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Wahb narrated to us; he said: Jarir ibn Hazim informed me, from Ayyub ibn Abi Tamimah, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Qatadah, from his father:

He was pursuing a man for a debt, and the man hid from him. He asked, “What made you do that?” He replied, “Hardship.” So he had him swear to that, and he swore. Then he called for his promissory note, handed it over to him, and said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Whoever grants a respite to someone in straitened circumstances or waives part of his debt, Allah will rescue him from the distresses of the Day of Resurrection.’”
