157 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Khālid ibn Khidāsh ibn ʿAjlān narrated to us; he said: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī Qatādah, that Abū Qatādah once pursued a man who owed him money. The debtor kept out of sight, but when Abū Qatādah eventually found him, the man said, “I am insolvent.” Abū Qatādah asked, “By Allah?” He replied, “By Allah.” Abū Qatādah then said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: ‘Whoever would like Allah to deliver him from the anxieties of the Day of Resurrection, let him grant respite to one in hardship—or cancel the debt for him.’”}
