148 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to me from ʿAbd Allah ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿIjli. He said:

A man once presented several requests to Ibn Shubruma, and he satisfied them. Later he came back with another request, but Ibn Shubruma was unable to meet it,⦗118⦘ so the man reproached him. Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī thereupon said, “By Allah, when a person is denied a small favor because he has shown little gratitude for the many kindnesses already bestowed on him, that denial is nothing but the fruit of his scant thankfulness.” Ibn Shubruma replied, “By Allah, before long this man will be counted among the men of Kufa.”
