133 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam al-ʿAjlī narrated to me; he said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī al-Muqaddamī narrated to us; he said: al-Sāʾib ibn ʿUmar al-Makhzūmī narrated to us; he said: I heard Yaḥyā ibn Ṣayfī say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,
“Whoever receives a favor is duty-bound to repay it. If he cannot, then let him voice his gratitude; and if he fails to do that, he has shown ingratitude for the blessing.” ⦗110⦘
Yaḥyā then added, “Have you not heard the words of Waraqah ibn Nawfal?
Raise up your weak one—his weakness will not diminish you;
one day, when consequences mature, he will repay the due.
He will reward you outright or else extol your name,
for whoever praises you for what you have done has indeed repaid.”
