126 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Abū Jaʿfar al-Madīnī narrated to me, from ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad. He said: A man from Basra informed me; he said: I heard al-Khalīl ibn Aḥmad relate that Ṭalḥat al-Ṭalḥāt—he is the son of ʿAbd Allah ibn Khalaf al-Khuzāʿī—said, “Whenever I owe someone a promise, no matter how much he tosses in the night longing to rise at dawn and secure his need, my own restlessness that night, eager to set out early and honor my pledge, is even greater. I fear that some unforeseen hindrance might lead me to break my word, and breaking one’s word is not among the traits of a noble man.”
