123 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: ʿUmar ibn Bukayr informed us, from Hisham ibn Muhammad, who said: A man of Tamim related to me; he said: ⦗101⦘ al-ʿUryān ibn al-Haytham al-Nakhaʿī came to ʿAttāb ibn Warqāʾ while the latter was governor of Isfahan and said:
We have not sought you out for some pressing need,
Nor for repaid loans, nor camels of fine breed.
Rather, appoint Iraq’s officials, sift them well—
Though people say: “Ibn Warqāʾ is rain that falls pell-mell.”
If you are generous, it is a habit you have shown;
But if an excuse restrains you, we go back, never to moan.
So he bestowed upon him one hundred thousand dirhams.
