122 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salih related to me; Abu Bakr ibn ʿAyyash narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn al-Walid, from Abu Jaʿfar, who said:
A man came to al-Husayn ibn ʿAli and asked him to accompany him in taking care of a need. Al-Husayn replied, “I am observing iʿtikāf (spiritual retreat).” The man then went to al-Hasan and told him what had happened. Al-Hasan said, “If he had walked with you, it would have been better for him than his retreat. By Allah, for me to walk with you to see to your need is dearer to me than remaining in retreat for an entire month.”
