114 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: I was informed on the authority of Ibn ʿĀʾisha that a man said to him, “The meaning of that is that one should seek help from those of handsome faces who are highly esteemed.” Ibn ʿĀʾisha rejected this interpretation and then recited:
“Your face—were you to beg the rain-clouds by it—
From its beauty and grace they would burst forth in showers.”
He then recited as well:
“His face itself proclaims his generosity;
Blessed is this guide, pointing the way to good.”
And he also recited:
“Faces which, if night travelers could use them as lamps,
Would split the darkness until the night gives way.”
Then he recited:
“I shall present my own face for him as the first act of welcome,
And I shall grant them my kindness while withholding my censure.”
