Section Two: Defining the sanad, the matn, and their ancillary matters
The Sanad
The sanad is the route of a hadith—in other words, the chain of transmitters who conveyed it.
The Isnād
Isnād carries this very same meaning, yet it is also used for the act of citing the chain itself and recounting it before the matn.
The Matn
The matn is the wording at which the isnād comes to an end.
