the presumption is that the Prophet ﷺ was aware of it and that revelation endorsed it; or when they say, “Such-and-such is part of the Sunnah,” for the obvious meaning is that the Sunnah intended is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Some scholars, however, have held that it may also encompass the Sunnah of the Companions and of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, since the term Sunnah is likewise applied to them.
