and he endeavoured to make up for the omission, inserting some reports that meet the criteria of both Shaykhs, others that satisfy the standard of one of them, and still others that do not conform to either of their conditions.

He said:

“The charge that the number of authentic hadiths is small—and its rebuttal.

Al-Bukhari and Muslim never held that there are no sound hadiths outside the ones they recorded in these two books. Indeed, a faction of innovators has arisen in our own time who have freely wagged their tongues in vilifying the leading scholars of the religion, claiming that the total number of sound reports—”
