Yet if the judgement is narrowed by a qualifier—such as saying, “the soundest chains in a given country,” or “in such-and-such a chapter,” or “regarding a particular legal question”—then the assertion is acceptable. Allah knows best.
Tirmidhī’s Terminology
Tirmidhī commonly writes in his Jāmiʿ: “a ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ,” “a ḥadīth that is singular and ḥasan,” or “a ḥadīth that is ḥasan, singular, and ṣaḥīḥ.”
There is no doubt that ḥasan and ṣaḥīḥ may legitimately converge: a report can be ḥasan in and of itself while attaining the rank of ṣaḥīḥ by virtue of supporting evidence. The same holds for the combination of singularity (gharābah) and ṣaḥīḥ, as noted earlier.
