Muqaddima fi Usul al-HadithAbd al-Haqq al-Dehlawi
  1. The mutawātir
When the number of transmitters becomes so great that, in ordinary circumstances, it would be impossible for them all to have agreed upon a lie, the report is called mutawātir (mass-transmitted).

  2. The fard
A gharīb report is also described as fard (unique).

5-a. The relative fard
What is meant by “its narrator is one” is that this singleness may occur at even a single point in the chain of transmission; in that case it is called a fard nisbī (relative fard).

5-b. The absolute fard
If the report is solitary at every level of the chain, it is termed fard muṭlaq (absolute fard).
